Here in the U.S. we take going to school for granted, but in other places children have to fight for the right to go to school. Malala is a girl who had to fight for her education, because in Pakistan people don’t believe girls deserve an education. I think some reasons why kids feel differently about going to school is that here in the U.S. kids are required to go to school while in other places kids just want to have the chance to go to school and learn.

To start with here in the U.S. kids are required to go to school. They think everyone goes to school and they take it for granted. The compulsory education laws require children to go to school for a certain period of time. Are you glad that these laws are put into action? I bet kids in third world countries would be happy if they had this law. That is why kids in the U.S. are required to go to school.

There are also some places where kids have to fight for a chance to go to school and learn. Education is very important in life yet there are more than 72 million children that are of primary education age and are not in school. “I speak not for myself but for those without voice… those who have fought for their rights… their right to live in peace, their right to be treated with dignity, their right to equality of opportunity, their right to be educated.” Stated by Malala. I personally think that education should be a right not a privilege.

Those were some reasons why I think kids feel differently about going to school. What do you think? Should going to school be a right or a privilege? Do you take school for granted?

Malala made her voice heard by speaking up and disobeying the Taliban, because she believes that girls deserve an education. Do you think girls deserve an education? Either way if you do or don’t let me tell you what Malala believes. First of all, Malala spoke up for girls education. “Girls are getting more deprived of our rights. We are afraid of no one, and we will continue our education. This is our dream.” This proves that Malala spoke up for girls education because Malala said this during one of her interviews about girls education. Second, Malala didn’t dress how the Taliban says woman should dress. “His eyes bored into mine. Sisters, he said to both of us, you must wear burqa. You are bringing shame.” This proves that Malala didn’t dress how the Taliban says woman should dress, because Malala got caught not wearing a burqa which is something that the Taliban says woman should wear. That is how I think Malala made her voice heard.

         Education is important to Malala because not many girls from Pakistan are allowed to receive an education, and Malala believes that girls have the right to receive an education. Girls weren’t allowed to be in school. “Sir the school you are running is Western and infield, it said. You teach girls and you have a uniform that is un-Islamic. Stop this or you will be in trouble and your children will weep and cry for you.” This supports that girls weren’t allowed to go to school because it says that you teach girls and it that it must stop. Malala does not know what is wrong with girls going to school. “ What have I done wrong that I should be afraid? All I want to do is go to school. And that is not a crime. That is my right.” This proves that Malala believes that girls have the right to receive an education. Those were some reasons why I think education is important to Malala.

Although communicating through technology can be useful and convenient you can’t see the person who you are talking to. Although they bear some minor similarities, the differences between communicating in person and communicating through technology are clear.

Here are some similarities between communicating in person and communicating with technology. They both have positive things and negative things. For example if you are communicating through technology you might not be able to hear people clearly. You can communicate with people far away. You can be bullied in both ways of communicating. You can be cyberbullied when you are communicating through technology. You can also be bullied physically when you are communicating in person. Here is an example of cyberbullying if people message you hurtful things and they can keep on doing it to you. Be careful if you are being bullied it doesn’t matter if you are being bullied physically or if you are being cyberbullied the safest thing to do is tell an adult. Those were some similarities between communicating in person and communicating through technology.

Here are some differences between communicating in person and communicating through technology. When you are communicating through technology you can communicate anywhere. For example you can be communicating with someone that is in a different state. I have family that lives in New York so communicating through technology is more convenient. If you are communicating in person you have to be close to them for they can hear you. You can see the person’s emotions when you are communicating in person. When you are communicating in person you can see the person’s facial expressions and their emotions. When you are communicating through technology you can’t see the person’s facial expressions and emotions. Those were some differences between communicating in person and communicating through technology.

As you can see they bear minor similarities, but the differences between communicating in person and communicating through technology are clear. I like communicating through technology, but I also like communicating in person. For me it depends what the situation is. Which one do you prefer?

I think first person point of view affects “Out of my Mind” positively. For instance, you can understand how Melody is feeling. “I shrieked and kicked with joy. A puppy!” Melody was more happy than a kid with a bucket full of candy. Not to mention, since it is in Melody’s point of view you can understand that melody is really smart, but no one knows it. “By the time I was two, all my memories had words, and all my words had meanings. But only in my head.” Melody is a genius. On the other hand, you can understand what Melody is thinking. “I didn’t want the blocks. I wanted to tell her they were dangerous. I wanted her to tell somebody to get rid of them before a child got sick.” Melody is like a hazard warning. That is how I think first point of view affects the story.

There are many decisions I like about how Sharon Draper wrote “Out of my Mind.”She writes with descriptive language which creates imagery. “When people look at me, I guess they see a girl with short, dark, curly hair strapped into a pink wheelchair.” The story is written in first person. “I guess I figured out I was different a little at a time.” It helps me understand more about people like Melody. “Thoughts need words. Words need a voice.” Those are the decisions I like about how Sharon Draper wrote “Out of my Mind.”
